Bring the dog. Our leafy courtyard and the street-side tables on Darling Street are both theirs — shaded by mature trees and big umbrellas, with a water bowl on the way over. Walk up, or book ahead.

They know the way down. The courtyard and the street-side tables are where they end up — bandanas optional, water bowl included.

Alfresco Dining

The Outdoor Courtyard

Made for easy, breezy long lunches. Surrounded by greenery, shaded by mature trees and expansive umbrellas — the kind of spot where a dog settles under the table and stays there for three hours.

It's the quieter of the two, tucked off the street, so it suits dogs who'd rather not watch every passing bike.

Street-side on Darling St

Our alfresco seating spills onto Darling Street itself — the perfect spot to catch the last of the afternoon sun with a spritz in hand, dog lead looped around the chair.

No booking needed: these seats are kept for walk-ins. Finish the walk here.

Dog-friendly questions

Is The Cottage Balmain dog friendly?
Yes. Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome in our outdoor courtyard and at our street-side tables on Darling Street, during all opening hours. Dogs aren't permitted inside the dining rooms, the Atrium or the Loft. Assistance animals are welcome anywhere in the venue.
Do I need to book if I'm bringing my dog?
Not necessarily. Our street-side seats are kept free for walk-ins, so you can turn up. If you'd rather be certain of a spot — especially on a sunny weekend — book a courtyard table and mention the dog in the notes.
Where exactly can my dog sit?
Two areas: the outdoor courtyard, which is open-air and shaded by mature trees and umbrellas, and the street-side tables directly on Darling Street. Both are fully alfresco. The indoor spaces are people-only.
Do you provide water bowls?
Yes — just ask any of the team when you sit down and we'll bring a fresh bowl over.
Is there shade, or cover if it rains?
Plenty of shade: the courtyard sits under mature trees and expansive umbrellas. Our covered spaces are indoors, though, and dogs can't come inside — so a properly wet day is one to sit out.
Where do I park, and is it an easy walk?
We're at 342 Darling Street, Balmain. There's timed street parking on Darling Street and the side streets — no car park of our own. Most locals walk, and the 441 and 445 buses stop close by.
Can I bring more than one dog?
Generally yes, as long as they're on leads and settled at your table. If you're bringing a few, or you're a larger group with dogs, give us a call on (02) 8084 8185 first so we can seat you somewhere with room.
